One True Nature Route

Ryan-in-August revision: Copenhagen stays the August 1 landing pad, Gothenburg and Oslo stay as compact Nordic chapters, Stockholm is parked for this pass, Venice moves to the Aug 21 Biennale weekend, Amsterdam moves to Aug 25-Sep 1 for Ryan, then Paris gets a longer runway into Three.js.

Tradeoff: Amsterdam-in-August is now the stronger constraint. To keep the route sane, Stockholm is the flexible Nordic piece, Gothenburg and Oslo become four-night passes, Venice uses the Aug 21 weekend, and Paris gains the extra week before Three.js.
What changed

Research folded in

The hard requirements are now mandatory constraints, and the Timeline presents one settled working route.

Still fixed: The route keeps the required cities/regions, Three.js Sep 10-11, the Aug 21 Venice Biennale weekend, and Austin return by Oct 28.

Travel plan

Train-first where it is actually good: the Nordic spine, Amsterdam to Paris, and Paris to Geneva. After Geneva, protect the retreat and use flight/ferry logistics instead of forcing heroic overland moves.

Train-first verdictYes, this still makes geographic sense if Stockholm is the flexible Nordic piece: train Copenhagen -> Gothenburg -> Oslo, fly Oslo -> Venice for the Aug 21 Biennale weekend, fly Venice -> Amsterdam for Ryan, then take the clean Amsterdam -> Paris and Paris -> Geneva trains.

Yes, this still makes geographic sense if Stockholm is the flexible Nordic piece: train Copenhagen -> Gothenburg -> Oslo, fly Oslo -> Venice for the Aug 21 Biennale weekend, fly Venice -> Amsterdam for Ryan, then take the clean Amsterdam -> Paris and Paris -> Geneva trains.

Decisions to keep visible

These are the planning conclusions that are easy to lose when the route changes.

True Nature restored as the center

True Nature Ithaca Sep 26-Oct 3 is preserved, with a Greek beach week after it and Marrakech / Atlas as the final chapter.

Next use: Confirm True Nature room availability before booking flights.

Amsterdam is now an August/Ryan anchor

Ryan is unavailable in September, so Amsterdam moves to Aug 25-Sep 1 before Paris. The route now uses Venice Aug 21 and parks Stockholm for this pass.

Next use: Use Amsterdam as the social visit chapter, then take the clean Sep 1 train to Paris.

Website simplified to one route

The old comparison UI is hidden and the app now presents one clean Nordic + True Nature timeline instead of competing alternatives.

Next use: Use this as the working route until a specific constraint forces a real change.

Venice uses the Aug 21 Biennale weekend

Venice stays four nights, but moves to Aug 21-25 so Amsterdam can be late August.

Next use: Protect Aug 21-23 for Biennale Giardini/Arsenale and keep Aug 25 as the Amsterdam transfer.

North Africa coast removed

The separate North Africa coast block is gone. The North Africa requirement is currently satisfied by the final nine-night Marrakech / Atlas chapter only.

Next use: Do not add Taghazout, Essaouira, Sidi Kaouki or a coast stop unless it earns its way back in later.

Stockholm is parked, Gothenburg/Oslo stay compact

The Ryan constraint makes Stockholm the flexible Nordic piece. Copenhagen stays 12 nights, Gothenburg and Oslo become four-night chapters.

Next use: Add Stockholm back only if Ryan dates or another hard anchor changes.

North Africa should be specific

The strongest current North Africa answer is not a month of vague Morocco; it is a focused surf/yoga coast week plus Marrakech museums, Gueliz/medina culture and departure positioning.

Next use: Choose Taghazout/Agadir for younger beach-surf energy, Essaouira for art/music/coast, or Marrakech/CMN for easier homebound flights.

No separate Austin buffer stop

The main route now ends Marrakech / Atlas on Oct 19, leaving room to return before the Oct 28 latest-arrival requirement without a separate Austin buffer stop.

Next use: Price flights so Austin arrival is no later than Oct 28, 2026.

Events replace mandatory-city labels

Timeline stop cards now use the old mandatory label slot for event leads, and every stop has a Museums card beside Stay, Next Move and Planning Note.

Next use: Use event cards as research prompts, not as new hard constraints unless explicitly promoted later.

Copenhagen is a 12-night landing pad

Copenhagen is now a 12-night landing pad starting August 1, because August 1 is hard and two Geneva nights moved here.

Next use: Do not move the start into July again without explicit approval.

Paris is now a full stay

Every serious route now gives Paris at least seven nights around Three.js, because four nights made Paris feel like logistics instead of a real city chapter.

Next use: Do not trim Paris below Sep 8-15 unless a future hard constraint forces it.

North Africa shortened

Marrakech / Atlas is now nine nights, with two nights moved to Amsterdam.

Next use: Use North Africa as a focused cultural finish unless a concrete retreat, surf plan or collaborator earns more time.

True Nature Ithaca penciled in

True Nature - Odyssey of the Heart runs Sep 26-Oct 3, 2026 at Itha108 on Ithaca and fits cleanly after Paris and Geneva.

Next use: Confirm room-level availability and transfer timing before buying Greece flights.

Hard requirements updated for Ryan

Amsterdam in August is now mandatory. Stockholm is no longer mandatory in the current route; it is the parked Nordic add-back.

Next use: Keep Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Oslo, Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, Greece, Northern Africa and Venice/Three.js anchors intact.

Sidi Kaouki removed from the hard/default route

The North Africa requirement is regional. Sidi Kaouki is not hard unless it is explicitly promoted later.

Next use: Keep North Africa as coast/culture placeholders until a country, city or retreat earns the slot.

Aug 21 Biennale weekend is selected

The working route now uses the Aug 21-23 Venice Biennale weekend because Amsterdam needs the final week of August.

Next use: Do not use Aug 28 unless Amsterdam moves earlier or Ryan becomes available in September.

Greece should be beach-first

Athens is not required. The current preference is Greek island, beach, yoga, wellness or meditation energy, with Ithaca especially interesting.

Next use: Treat Athens only as transit unless a later reason makes it worth a real stay.

Open mics and festivals are softer layers

Stage-time planning is useful, but open mics, MOGA, ADE and other festivals are not mandatory constraints.

Next use: Use them to enrich a route after the hard structure survives.

City-fit ranking

Social/dating/startup fit from the Scandinavia thread plus the Lisbon challenger.

#4

Geneva

Mandatory Swiss week

A shorter five-night post-conference base with lake life, CERN/UN context, Alps access and a French-speaking reset before Greece.

Research link ↗
#5

Ithaca / Ionian Greece

Best emotional Greece lead

Small-island, beach-access wellness energy with two Itha108 retreat leads, but availability must be verified before the route locks.

#6

Corfu / Greek island backup

Best meditation backup

INEA gives a beach-adjacent yoga and meditation option after Geneva without forcing Athens as a city base.

#7

North Africa coast

Focused surf/yoga coast, not filler

Taghazout/Agadir gives surf-yoga and younger beach energy; Essaouira gives art/music/medina energy. Choose one rather than stretching the region vaguely.

Confirmed 2026
Aug 3-7 · SS27 schedule across the city

The best dated Copenhagen anchor inside the 12-night landing pad: shows, presentations, talks and fashion-week street energy.

Plan: Use this as the “go outside and be around stylish people” week, even without accreditation; track public talks, showrooms and brand events.
Confirmed 2026
Aug 8-11 overlap · full Pride runs Aug 8-16

Pride Square opens Aug 8 with concerts, community events, food/drink and partner programming.

Plan: Catch the opening weekend energy, then move on before the Aug 15 parade unless the route changes again.
Recurring · reconfirm
Target Sun Aug 2 or Sun Aug 9

Weekly singer-songwriter open stage with house guitar and piano mentioned in current listings/social snippets.

Plan: Message the organizer before arrival; this is the best no-instrument-needed Copenhagen performance lead.
Recurring · reconfirm
Watch Fridays during Aug 1-13

Meetup group for Copenhagen singles and social mixers, including low-pressure creative cocktail events in a gallery setting.

Plan: Join the group before travel and watch for Aug 7 events; treat it as social scaffolding, not a hard plan.
Gothenburg

Way Out West

Confirmed 2026
Aug 13-15 · full festival overlap

Major Swedish music festival that now sits exactly inside the compact Gothenburg stop.

Plan: Make this the main reason Gothenburg survives as a shorter stop; book lodging early.
Confirmed 2026
Aug 13-15 · late-night city venues

Way Out West spills into late-night city venues; the Concert Hall listing confirms an Aug 13 22:00 Stay Out West show.

Plan: Plan one late night, then keep the next morning light. This is the young-social Gothenburg card.
Aug 13-17 · local concerts/open-mic watch

Use the compact stay for live music, Haga/Linne social time and open-mic scouting; Gothenburg Fringe is later, Aug 28-Sep 6.

Plan: Keep checking Goeteborg.com and venue calendars after Way Out West tickets are decided.
Aug 21-25 · hard weekend Aug 21-23

The 61st International Art Exhibition runs May 9-Nov 22 at Giardini, Arsenale, Forte Marghera and around Venice.

Plan: Four nights is tight but workable: prioritize Giardini, Arsenale/collateral, and one slower wandering block.
Confirmed 2026
Open during the Venice stay · exhibition through Oct 19

Modern art anchor and a calmer counterweight to Biennale crowds; current 2026 exhibition runs during the route.

Plan: Use this as a shorter museum morning before a long Biennale afternoon.
Confirmed 2026
Sep 10-11 · Maison de la Chimie

Hard reason to be in Paris: first Three.js conference, two days of talks/panels, drinks and Seine afterparty included with ticket.

Plan: Buy ticket before lodging; stay near the 7th/6th or an easy Metro route.
Confirmed 2026
Sep 10-19 · citywide

Design Week overlaps the conference and makes Paris feel like a real creative/web/design chapter.

Plan: Use Sep 12-14 for galleries/showrooms after Three.js rather than leaving immediately.
Recurring · reconfirm
Target Wed Sep 2 or Wed Sep 9 or Sun Sep 13

Paris has recurring jams/open mics; Caveau des Oubliettes and openmicparis posts are the best no-instrument leads to reconfirm.

Plan: Bring two songs and check whether piano/guitar is available that week.
Confirmed 2026
Sat Sep 19 · Village du Soir

A real dated English-language social/nightlife event during the Geneva week in the main route.

Plan: Good solo night out; buy only after Geneva dates are locked.
Confirmed 2026
Book a free visit during Geneva week

CERN is the most distinctive Geneva non-museum anchor and fits the tech side of the trip.

Plan: Register when the date window opens; keep a lake/museum backup if tours fill.
Outreach required
Geneva week · reconfirm monthly jams

Carouge/Geneva live-music circuit; Chat Noir and AMR are the best leads for jazz/improv or a local night out.

Plan: Check calendars a month out and ask whether a traveler can sit in or just listen.
Watchlist
Sep 22-26 · once transfer timing is known

Keep one slow travel day for Kefalonia/Ithaca ferry logistics, swims and not arriving at the retreat depleted.

Plan: Do not book tight same-day flight/ferry chains until True Nature confirms the Sep 26 group boat timing.
Ionian arrival bridge

Kefalonia beach staging day

Watchlist
Sep 22-26 · Fiskardo/Sami/Argostoli base

Use the bridge as a beach and logistics decompression window before the retreat rather than a miniature Athens-style city stop.

Plan: Choose one port-adjacent base after flight/ferry options are clear.
Confirmed 2026
Sep 26-Oct 3 · Itha108, Ithaca

The current blueprint retreat: yoga, meditation, breathwork, ceremony, vegetarian meals and Ithaca beach/cove energy.

Plan: Contact Jed/Jediah for rooms, deposit, cancellation and the Kefalonia/Ithaca boat transfer details.
Confirmed 2026
During Sep 26-Oct 3 retreat week

The True Nature page describes the Itha108 setting and retreat container around daily practice, beaches and island immersion.

Plan: Treat this as the social/beach event inside the retreat instead of trying to leave the container for nightlife.
Watchlist
Oct 3-10 · check Itha108 calendar

Itha108 lists a follow-on Oct 3-10 retreat, which could either be a conflict or a useful clue that the venue remains active.

Plan: Use it as research signal; do not double-book unless the vibe and availability are perfect.
Greek beach integration

Ithaca Vathy museum + boat day

Confirmed 2026
Oct 3-10 · low-key island day

The municipality highlights Archaeological Museum of Vathy plus Folklore/Nautical Museum; pair one with a swim/boat day.

Plan: Keep this intentionally small after the retreat.
Recurring · reconfirm
Thursdays/storytelling + regular live music; reconfirm exact October nights

Cafe Clock is a cross-cultural hub with storytelling and live music, better for a solo cultural night than trying to force clubbing.

Plan: Plan one early-evening event here, then decide whether Gueliz/Hivernage nightlife feels appealing.
Confirmed 2026
Any non-Wednesday YSL day + MACAAL calendar

Marrakech does have museums: YSL/Majorelle and MACAAL are the obvious design/contemporary-art anchors.

Plan: Book official Majorelle/YSL tickets only through the official ticket site; pair MACAAL with a slower afternoon.
Confirmed 2026
Aug 18-21 overlap · festival runs Aug 14-21

You catch the tail end of Oslo Chamber Music Festival inside the shortened Oslo stop.

Plan: Pick one concert, then pair it with MUNCH/National Museum rather than trying to make Oslo a nightlife city.
Aug 18-23 · museum and sauna window

Use Oslo for the big museum pair, waterfront wandering and a fjord sauna session now that Mela falls before arrival.

Plan: Treat this as the calmer Norway reset, not a festival chase.
Recurring · reconfirm
Aug 18-23 · weekly jazz calendar

Herr Nilsen and Oslo Jazzforum run a steady concert calendar, including weekly Saturday jazz programming.

Plan: Check TicketCo/Herr Nilsen a month out; this is the best seated live-music lead for the Oslo week.
Aug 25-Sep 1 · Ryan window; Fringe starts after checkout

Amsterdam is now here primarily for Ryan. Use late-Aug city calendars rather than building around September Fringe.

Plan: Do not count Amsterdam Fringe as an overlap unless the route slips later again.
Aug 25-Sep 1 watch · Sep 2 open stage is after checkout

Mezrab is still a warm Amsterdam lead, but the known Sep 2 open stage no longer fits the current stay.

Plan: Use the live program only if a late-Aug night appears or if Amsterdam gains one extra night.
Any Amsterdam museum day

Museumplein gives Amsterdam a clean art day before Paris: Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Stedelijk are clustered.

Plan: Book timed Van Gogh/Rijksmuseum slots early if exact days matter.
Confirmed 2026
Aug 29-Sep 1 overlap · show continues Sep 13

Sting’s musical opens during the new late-Aug Amsterdam window at Royal Theatre Carre.

Plan: This is the cleanest confirmed Amsterdam event inside the Ryan window.
Confirmed 2026
Sep 10-14 · overlaps Three.js and Paris Design Week

Major design/lifestyle trade fair at Paris Nord Villepinte running alongside Paris Design Week.

Plan: Likely trade-oriented, but it explains why the city will be design-heavy during the Paris week.
Watchlist
Oct 7-10 · final day overlaps Marrakech arrival

Aerospace, AI and defense industry event ending on the planned Marrakech arrival day; worth keeping visible if flights land early or the route shifts by a night.

Plan: Do not move the route for it unless a ticket, contact or flight timing makes the final day useful.
Planning rule: book around confirmed festivals; subscribe to tech calendars; reconfirm weekly events about two weeks ahead; treat Bergen, Chania and Essaouira stage time as outreach projects rather than promises.

Recurring · reconfirm
Target: Sun Aug 2 or Sun Aug 9

Singer-songwriter open stage: two-song spots for early sign-ups, original music, attentive room. House guitar, piano and mics are listed by the organizer/group.

Your move: Arrive before the 19:15 sign-up and make this the first performance stamp of the trip.
02
Watchlist
Target: Mon Aug 3 or Mon Aug 10 if the monthly date lands

Monthly all-genre Copenhagen open mic listing with sound engineer, lights and house piano.

Your move: Check the monthly calendar after July 2026 dates post; use as a piano-forward backup.
03
Watchlist
Target: Aug 13-17 watch; no verified route-date listing yet

The old February/April event pages are historical. Current usable sources are the venue calendar and active social profile; treat The Abyss as a watch lead only unless a fresh open-mic date appears.

Your move: Do not plan around this yet. Check the venue calendar/Instagram in July 2026 and only use it if a new open-mic night lands inside Aug 13-17.
04
Target: No current Aug 13-17 date; email/watch only

Open Stage exists as a Musikens Hus/Hangmattan format, but the currently visible future run is outside this route window. This is outreach, not a booked performance option.

Your move: Watch Musikens Hus social/calendar and email only if they announce an August date or can point you to a route-week stage.
05
Outreach required
Target: Weekend Aug 15-16 if scheduled

Acoustic community jam for instruments or voice; low-pressure social playing rather than a formal stage.

Your move: Join the Meetup and watch for August jam dates; bring a small song list even if you do not bring an instrument.
06
Recurring · reconfirm
Target: Tue Aug 18

Oslo Tuesday jam session from 20:00-23:30; experienced and emerging musicians play and sing, and the venue invites people to bring an instrument and join in.

Your move: Make this the primary Oslo performance target. Book/arrive early because it lands on arrival night.
07
Target: Aug 19-22 backup after Josefine

Current social profile describes live music and jam culture; use as a late-night Oslo backup rather than a formally listed open mic.

Your move: Check Queens Instagram/Facebook after arrival; listen first and ask the host/band whether visitors can sit in.
08
Target: Fri Aug 21 if the Friday jam is active

Cannaregio local jam/open-mic lead; local writeups describe Friday jam sessions open to people who want to try playing.

Your move: Message the venue before Venice, ask about membership/insurance, and use Aug 21 as the only route-date Friday target.
09
Target: Only if Venice gains a Thursday or late-summer jam returns

Official sources show Thursday jazz jam programming, but the current Aug 21-25 Venice stay does not include a Thursday. Keep as a Venice date-change lead.

Your move: Do not count this for the current route. Recheck Laguna Libre’s calendar in August if Venice dates shift.
10
Target: Aug 22-24 backup

Nightly seated jazz club, not an open mic; useful for meeting local players and asking where the jams are during the short Biennale stay.

Your move: Go as a listener if IsoLA 432 does not work; do not assume sit-in without an invitation.
11
Target: Sep 2 only if Amsterdam slips one night later

Warm storytelling/open-stage room, but the known Sep 2 lead is now after checkout.

Your move: Keep as a flexible add-back only if Ryan timing makes an extra Amsterdam night worthwhile.
14

16

Classic Paris jam/open-mic cellar with vocal and instrumental jam-session history.

Your move: Use as the late-night musician hang after the conference if your energy is high.
18
Watchlist
Target: Tue Sep 15 watch

AMR La Jam is a real Tuesday jazz jam lead, but use active AMR social/calendar checks instead of assuming the saved post guarantees Sep 15.

Your move: Check AMR Instagram and the official AMR calendar after arriving in Geneva; treat this as the primary Geneva sit-in only if La Jam is posted that Tuesday.
19
Watchlist
Target: Thu/Fri Sep 17-18 watch

Geneva cultural venue with jam-session events; listings mention on-site sign-up windows and limited capacity.

Your move: Check September calendar one month out and use as a funk/groove backup.
20
Outreach required
Target: Sep 20-26 local scouting

Vathy cafe/bar listing notes occasional live music nights; good for a soft local ask, not a guaranteed open mic.

Your move: On the first Vathy evening, ask staff where musicians gather that week; offer one song only if invited.
21
Outreach required
Target: Sep 20-26 backup

Long-running Vathy nightlife bar with upbeat music; performance chance is relationship-first, not posted open stage.

Your move: Use this as local recon for island musicians before the retreat.
22
True Nature Ithaca

Retreat song circle

Outreach required
Target: Sep 26-Oct 3

Private retreat context only. This is not public stage time; it could be an acoustic/share circle if the group energy supports it.

Your move: Ask the retreat lead in advance whether a casual song circle would be welcome. If the answer is soft, drop it.
23
Outreach required
Target: During retreat week only if appropriate

Municipal music contacts include the Ithaca mandolin band and community choir; useful as local music context, not a drop-in jam.

Your move: Save as cultural context; the retreat remains the priority.
25
Greek beach integration

Corfu Music Experiences watch

Watchlist
Target: Tue Oct 6 or Wed Oct 7 if Corfu becomes the beach base

Curated live jazz/storytelling experience with local artists; not an open mic, but a music-community doorway.

Your move: Only use if the beach week moves to Corfu; ask the host privately about open jams.
26
Recurring · reconfirm
Target: Wed Oct 14 or Sat Oct 17

Cafe Clock lists weekly jam sessions and says musicians can join with instrument or voice; this is the strongest North Africa performance target.

Your move: Confirm the Marrakech schedule after arrival and go early. Voice is enough if no guitar travels.

Elvis checkKnown, not the magic key

There is real Nordic Elvis fandom, including an official Nordic fan club, but the better local unlock is not Elvis. Learn one place-specific song plus one universal English-language crowd song.

Best north-star coversStory + chorus

The safest open-mic lane is a strong acoustic version: Lukas Graham or Kim Larsen in Copenhagen, Hakan/ABBA/Robyn/Avicii in Sweden, a-ha/Kygo/AURORA in Norway, then one regional classic later in the route.

Performance ruleOriginal first, cover second

If the room feels songwriter-heavy, lead with an original. If it feels social, do a locally aware cover in your own key and introduce it humbly: one sentence about why you learned it.

Aug 1-Aug 13 · Denmark

Copenhagen

Acoustic storytelling works here: Danish pop has a big emotional songwriter lane, and the open stage is likely to reward restraint over showboating.

Lukas Graham - 7 Years
Local unlockKim Larsen/Gasolin is the Danish-heart move; Lukas Graham is the safer English-language Copenhagen bridge.

Aug 13-Aug 17 · Sweden

Gothenburg

Gothenburg is the Swedish city where a local song can land hardest. Hakan Hellstrom is the local signal; Swedish indie-pop and dance-pop are the safer acoustic backups.

Jose Gonzalez / The Knife - Heartbeats
Local unlockHakan Hellstrom, especially the Gothenburg title track, is the closest thing here to a place-specific anthem.

Norway gives you one enormous global classic plus a modern electronic/pop lane. Use a-ha carefully because the chorus is a trap unless you transpose.

Risk and resilience plan

Route logic starts with mandatory constraints, then checks transport, retreat availability and official travel advice before anything becomes a booking.

Route integrity

  • Every option includes Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Oslo, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, Greece, Northern Africa and Venice.
  • Paris is protected for Three.js on September 10-11 at Maison de la Chimie.
  • Venice uses one of the August 14, August 21 or August 28 Biennale weekends.
  • Austin return stays no later than October 28, three days before Halloween.

Availability risk

  • Greek retreat pages can show partial room availability; verify exact room type before paying.
  • Use refundable lodging until the Greece retreat and North Africa routing are chosen.
  • Keep Athens as transit-only unless a flight/ferry connection requires an overnight.
  • Sidi Kaouki, MOGA and ADE are optional, not route requirements.

North Africa planning posture

  • Pick the country and coastal base after Greece is chosen and flight pricing is real.
  • Use protected connections where practical from Greece into Northern Africa and home to Austin.
  • Recheck official advisories seven days and 48 hours before entry.
  • Retain flexible final-week lodging and emergency rerouting funds.
